A recent tweet has sparked a new wave of speculation related to Changpeng Zhao (CZ), and his future in the crypto space.

In an interesting event, an X user shared his opinion, asking the newly elected president Donald Trump to apologize to Binance’s former CEO, Changpeng Zhao (CZ). He claimed that Zhao is a victim of “lawfare”, and restoring his position could benefit the industry’s growth.

In response, CZ replied humbly and pragmatically, saying, “No wish to be CEO again. But definitely wouldn’t mind a pardon.”

The remark comes after a turbulent year for Binance’s founder, who pleaded guilty in November 2023 to a criminal charge involving the failure to maintain an effective anti-money laundering (AML) program at the crypto exchange.

As part of a settlement with US authorities, Zhao was sentenced to four months in prison. After serving his time in prison, he was released in September. However, his criminal record continues to reflect the federal charges, which is a big hurdle for him for future business operations.

The conversation is further fueled by the recent actions of President Joe Biden, who pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, for federal crimes, including tax evasion and falsifying a federal weapons purchase form.

The move has sparked criticism, with opponents arguing that it reflects political biases. Biden’s pardon of his son, despite earlier pledges not to do so, has raised questions about whether similar actions should be considered for other controversial figures including CZ.

If Trump were to issue a pardon, it could not only restore CZ’s record but also send a message about the power of second chances, particularly when the crypto industry is booming.
