It has been over a month since WazirX suffered a $234 million hack and shut down operations for some time. According to a recent post on X by Cyvers Alerts, the WazirX hacker has started laundering the stolen money through Tornado Cash.
WazirX hacker starts laundering stolen crypto
Within the last hour, the hacker behind the WazirX exploit has started laundering crypto through Tornado Cash. Cyvers Alerts reports that $2 million has been laundered today. Earlier, the hacker moved 5K Ethereum worth $12 million to a new address recorded on Etherscan.
Two days ago, the hacker moved $6.5 million worth of the stolen crypto through the same sanctioned crypto mixer Tornado Cash. Tornado Cash allows crypto users to exchange tokens while masking wallet addresses on several blockchains.

In July, WazirX experienced a security breach in one of its multi-sig wallets, resulting in the loss of nearly $100 million in Shiba Inu (SHIB) and $52 million in ether, among other assets, from the exchange.
As indicated in a June 2024 report, the stolen cash accounted for more than 45% of the exchange’s reserves. Subsequently, the exchange filed for a restructuring process to resolve liabilities.
