Recently, the United States Air Force initiated two blockchain-focused deals. As per the latest announcement, SIMBA Chain will now be used in one of their manufacturing traceability projects.
SIMBA Chain, the premier US-based cloud-based, blockchain as a service (BaaS) solution provider, has been appointed to collaborate with the USAF for its technology to be used on the battlefield and at home.
In a news release published on August 26, SIMBA Chain announced that they would provide the blockchain framework needed to properly secure the Air Force’s highly complicated supply chain wing which is used to equip and repair forward-deployed forces. The SIMBA Chain is built on top of Microsoft Azure which, they believe, is the best for providing support on the battlefield owing to the platform’s trust and reliability.

It is a matter of no doubt that strong value chains are one of the gravest security concerns facing the entirety of the manufacturing industries sector. Although the issue gets especially critical when it comes to military applications, where opponent parties might attempt to acquire or interfere with critical data. This is where SIMBA Chain comes into play.
The SIMBA Chain platform will be used by the BASECAMP (Blockchain Approach for Supply Chain Additive Manufacturing Parts) to coordinate distributed manufacturing in the field.
This project aims to form a blockchain-based prototype that would register and track Additive Manufacturing (AM) components throughout the entire course of their lifecycle. SIMBA’s platform might turn out to be useful in decentralizing AM components, while, simultaneously, maintaining the integrity of data in hostile conditions. Deploying this solution, secret top-secret blueprints of 3D printing could be transmitted so that no third-party in between can tamper with the valuable data. This would help USAF forward its forces without additional layers of surveillance.
Owing to its decentralized nature, many believe blockchain is the ideal application in highly volatile, war-like scenarios. Keeping that in mind, SIMBA’s simplification layer becomes a crucial element for blockchain developers to implement USAF’s complex, security solutions.
SIMBA Chain was founded in 2017 as a result of a grant from DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) awarded to a partnership between Indiana Technology and Manufacturing Companies (ITAMCO) and the computing department of the University of Notre Dame. The messaging and transaction platform born out of the partnership has not only won multiple awards but has also been researched by the U.S. Navy.

Another report that dates back to last December says, the graduate school for the U.S.A.F has also developed an educational tool on top of blockchain technology for the supply chain management.
