Decentralization comes to live streaming on apps and websites thanks to the new announcement from Theta Video API. As per the announcement, the API will initially offer Beta support to live streaming in the US region. The function will be expanded to more regions soon, just as the project finishes the beta testing phase.
Theta Video API is a one-of-a-kind web3 initiative that brings the necessary tools for making video building easier on any application. The video uploaded on this API can be received anywhere with a few lines of code and p2p optimization. And what’s more, with Theta Video API, developers can significantly cut the cost of building video streaming infrastructures.
The lack of centralized servers and the easy-to-use interface have already helped many mobile and web developers. Moreover, the API also offers a few lines of JavaScript along with the playable video to give access to the Theta decentralized stream delivery library. Many platforms and projects, including Rewarded TV, Passaways, and OpenTheta, have adopted Theta Video API and NFT DRM technology thanks to such features.

The project moves one step further by adding live streaming support to its clients. Theta Video API has added a new “Live Streams” on the dashboard where users need to click the “New Stream” button. The “Stream Key” and “Stream Server” can be copied and pasted on the Open Broadcaster to start your live streaming on any website.
The live streaming feature will follow the same easy-to-use model with doorways to access NFT DRM technology. With NFT DRM, ticketed live streaming, pay-per-view events, or conferences can mint Theta NFTs to be sold as tickets. The Theta Video API can host the events through its decentralized delivery servers with NFT passes.
Decentralized streaming will help creators and users stop unwanted traffic from entering the server, protecting privacy and intellectual properties. Moreover, the lack of central servers and intermediaries will also bring down the cost significantly when embedding the live stream deliveries into the apps or websites. Also, Theta Video API allows users to finish all these steps with just the basic developer experience.
Theta Video API will integrate video encoding to Elite Bridge Nodes as part of its expansion plans. It will allow more than 100k nodes fr around the globe to commercially encode videos to earn TFUEL tokens. These Elite Nodes can perform these actions with higher reliability and uptime.

Further expansion plans include introducing decentralized storage to the Elite Nodes by the end of 2022. It will securely store the source videos and complete the end-to-end pipeline the API is trying to achieve. Upon completion, Theta API will be the web3 infrastructure for zero-interference, zero-permission, and decentralized video streaming.
