The IOTA Foundation and Walt.id have jointly committed to introducing an SSI-based login system for developers on traditional Web2 and upcoming Web3. This will enable them to onboard more users with full control over their information and data sharing options.
The IOTA Foundation chose Walt.id at the Request For Proposal event launched in March this year. Many participants were recorded; however, Walt.id gained an edge as all its projects are open-source, with some used by governments and other public authorities.
Products by Walt.id enable developers to build applications and access use cases of Web3 identity, wallets, and NFTs in the simplest manner.
The newly announced Sign-in option is based on self-sovereign identity, also known as SSI. Login With IOTA is available for all the developers irrespective of where they are based – Web2 or Web3.
Login With IOTA offers a sign-in option that maintains a user’s privacy while allowing the platforms to reach maximum interoperability via well-defined standards.

Under the collaboration, Walt.id will integrate IOTA into its open-source SSI infrastructure solutions capable enough to support the IOTA ecosystem. Other identity ecosystems that have been integrated are Gaia-X, EU Blockchain Service Infrastructure, Ethereum, Velocity Network, and many others.
Login With IOTA will function with OpenID Connect (OIDC), which is used by more than 50,000 websites that have over 1 billion accounts. Login With IOTA is the need of the hour as there is a constant rise in offering the best user experience while ignoring the compromise of user data. The project has two main goals: Web2 SSO and Web3 SSO.
Web2 SSO is relevant to users who build and maintain their apps on traditional Web2 systems. It will enable backward compatibility between the new SSI and the traditional IAM. Web3 SSO is more relevant for users who are developing Web3 apps. It will utilize the IOTA identity framework to provide SSI-based user onboarding processes.
The login system will give power to users to selectively share their personal data, which they would otherwise have to share repeatedly. The information will only have to be entered into the wallet once.
Users remain in full control over what data they must share compared to the traditional mechanism. Walt.id is the builder of NFT, identity, and wallet infrastructure for developers and enterprises. Governments already use its products, public authorities, enterprises, and decentralized autonomous organizations.

The project is scheduled to be implemented in the coming months, with a tentative launch for the Autumn of 2022. A free webinar is also being planned for everyone to get more details about the project, including demos, solution design, and Question & Answer sessions.
