In the main conference ‘D. FINE’ of Asia’s biggest blockchain festival Korea Blockchain Week (KBW 2019), the application of blockchain in the gaming industry was discussed. Many blockchain and gaming proponents stressed on the fact that “killer applications” could be created using blockchain technology.

Gamers have an instinct that blockchain technology can be used for in-game purchases or item trading using digital assets. Therefore, many experts are optimistic that online gaming is the sector where the first service using blockchain technology can materialize. The analysis also suggests that blockchain-based games will become very familiar among the general public.

Experts who attended KBW 2019 believe that “Blockchain will create a new in-game economic system.”

Choi Sung-won, Head of Strategy and P2P Network Expert, who once held the first position in blockchain games, said that “We are preparing e-sports services where users can trust each other and compete.” They are working on combining blockchain technology with gaming seamlessly, where players could “Take the ownership of items to users with blockchain.”

Besides, Choi said,

You can connect any one game to another game. For example, you could open treasure boxes in CryptoDozer with keys obtained elsewhere or vice-versa.

Koh Kwang-Wook, general manager of PlayDapp Technology, said,

Blockchain technology can give users ownership of items and help to implement a system that can use to trust and trade items on the blockchain system.

PlayDapp is a blockchain-based game service platform. They offer dApp (Decentralized Application) games that are developed on the blockchain public database system and facilitate the utilization of free items and trading between games. Their in-system token, PLA, is used for transactions between users. PlayDapp operators or developers earn PLA for each purchase or trading that takes place in-game, after deduction of a nominal fee by PlayDapp.
