Gaming has always been a fertile area for blockchain projects and NFTs. In fact, gaming provides one of the largest markets for NFTs on blockchains. However, the focus mainly stayed with improving the financial aspects of this new model, leaving the gaming experience to continue its primitive 2D interface. The gamefi environment still grew exponentially thanks to the Play-to-Earn model used in the games. The blockchain gaming industry reportedly accumulated 1.5 million users until last year. Gaming dApps alone posted a daily trading volume of $0.5 billion.
Nonetheless, the popularity of gamefi owes more to the DeFi model than gameplay. This scenario is changing now, with game developers showing great interest in making blockchain-friendly games with advanced technologies. A Vietnam-based group of game developers has announced the first person player-vs-player shooter game on the blockchains. Titled Epic War, this game is believed to take the entire gamefi environment by storm. The technical aspects of this game would open up the world of gamefi to the mainstream gaming communities.

Upon release, Epic War will be the first-ever blockchain-based first-person shooter game. This new game will use Triple-A graphics and will be VR-friendly. The gameplay primarily includes battle royale played on an alien planet where the players can contend against other players or NPCs as per their preference. It will also include other modes like squad battles. This 3D world will utilize free-play-to-earn for the games. The earnings will be redeemed in the native EWAR tokens. The tokens can be used for creating new avatars, purchasing NFTs, and for governance-related decisions.
Furthermore, the new game will give more significance to in-game NFTs, which will be awarded as the players progress through the game. These weapons, bears, and attires can be used or sold, or rented out for profit. The game is powered by the popular Unity Engine, and the foundation is created using C++ code. The Vietnam-based game developers have also partnered with the Japanese Open World to develop a VR infrastructure for the metaverse. Furthermore, they are also planning to launch a DAO for making governance decisions for the game in the future.

The beta version of Epic War is set to roll out in the second quarter of 2022. This will offer support for both PvP and PvE modes. Moreover, the initial game offering for the EWAR tokens is also expected to launch in the same quarter. The full game launch will follow the beta version and is currently scheduled for the third quarter. Along with this, the game also looks forward to multi-chain connectivity. Solana, Binance Smart Chain, NEAR, and Polygon are expected to offer support to this shooter game. With this adoption, users will have access to the features of these chains like Low fees, high performance, and many more. The long-term goals of the game include VR adoption and the creation of an Epic War Universe.
