Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) has launched its AI Builder Grants Program, aiming to blend artificial intelligence (AI) with blockchain technology in a novel way.
The program is offering five grants of $3,000 each, making up a total of $15,000, to back the creation of AI bots that can leverage Coinbase’s Multi-Party Computation (MPC) Wallets.
The Coinbase Program in a Nutshell
This initiative is all about sparking innovation. The goal is to encourage developers to build AI bots capable of operating on-chain using Coinbase’s MPC Wallets. These wallets allow AI agents to send and receive payments in USD Coin (USDC) for free on Base, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution. On top of that, AI agents can even earn a yield on their USDC wallet balances.
To qualify for one of these grants, your project needs to hit two main points: First, it must involve the creation of AI bots that use Coinbase’s MPC Wallets. Second, you need to submit your grant application before the deadline on September 5th, 2024. The applications will be judged by the Coinbase team based on creativity, utility, and real-world usage. It’s worth noting that grants will be awarded after the deadline, so you’ll need to be patient.
Tackling the Challenges of AI in Finance

One of the driving forces behind the AI Builder Grants Program is to address the hurdles AI agents encounter in the financial world. Unlike humans, AI agents can’t open bank accounts to handle automated payments. This is where onchain solutions come in. By marrying AI with blockchain, the program aims to unlock new potential for AI-driven financial applications.
Coinbase’s Co-Founder and CEO underscored the importance of this program, saying, “LLMs should have crypto wallets. Let’s help AI agents get work done (on your behalf) and participate in the economy.”

If you’re a developer interested in snagging one of these grants, you can apply through Deform. But don’t dawdle—applications close on September 5th, 2024. Coinbase is excited to see what developers come up with, especially when it comes to AI bots using MPC Wallets.
For those eager to dive in, Coinbase offers plenty of documentation and support via Discord to help bring your ideas to life. The AI Builder Grants Program marks a significant step toward integrating AI with blockchain, opening the door to a new era of AI-driven financial solutions.
