Billboard has partnered with Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch ChartStars, an NFT-based initiative of compiled virtual collectibles using eco-friendly Flow Blockchain.
ChartStars marks Billboard’s 1st scalable NFT product aimed at music fans. It will accumulate artist-focused virtual artwork commemorating Billboard Chart accomplishments and successes. Collectibles will include licensed art and creativity, and smart contracts would provide access to Billboard Live Events. The 1st ChartStars products are expected to go on sale in May.
As Billboard’s launch partner, UMG will collaborate with its list of world-class labels and artists to start celebrating Billboard chart accomplishments for music that debut in the Top 25 or accomplish other substantial chart-related milestones such as duration of time on the chart, concurrent no. of songs on the chart, and historic chart records, among many other milestones. UMG is the only corporation to have 9 of the top ten albums on Billboard’s album chart, a feat achieved six times in the chart’s 64-year history. Noticeably, UMG set the new chart record in 2021 by holding the top spot for 38 straight weeks.

Enthusiasts will also compete for real-world prizes, trying to add an authentic surface of game elements to the platform. Billboard couldn’t have hoped for a better launch partner than UMG, a company that prioritizes artists and admirers in everything that they do.
Billboard is pioneering a new way for artists and fans to appreciate unique accomplishments and cultural instances by leveraging its iconic charts for these dynamic online collectibles.
